Prepare for a tutoring lesson.
Choose a realistic goal for a session.
Try this with Music 1
- Pick one topic and bring a question, an attempted answer or a short section of your notes.
- Write a goal you can check at the end, such as explaining a method or improving a response.
- Choose one independent follow-up task to try after working through the example.
Pick a starting point
- Hearing beat, metre and metric grouping: regular versus irregular metres
- Syncopation, augmentation, diminution and rhythmic ostinato by ear
- Tempo, gradations of tempo, pulse rates and the absence of pulse
- Melodic contour, direction of pitch movement, range and register
- Harmony, tonality, scales, modes and other ways of organising pitch
- Definite and indefinite pitch, pitch patterns, pedal point and drone
Plan a sample lesson
Choose one inventory topic and a goal. This plan stays in your browser until you download it; it is not sent to a tutor.
